Fair Trade Organic Coffee

beans

In 2006 we were very proud to bring our customers, organic, fair trade and shade grown coffee. We have taken our commitment to sustainability one step further and are proud to be the first University in Canada to offer locally roasted, fair trade, organic, shade grown and bird friendly coffee.

Good for the local community and good for the coffee growing communities around the globe, in August 2008, we began serving both Ethical Bean Coffee at all of our units and Milano Boutique Coffee at Caffe Perugia, Ike’s Cafe and Sage Bistro.

We believe fair trade is a better way to do business. And we believe you think it's a better choice, too.

Ethical Bean Coffee

Available at all UBC Food Services units (with the exception of Caffè Perugia, Ike’s Café, LTK Café, Sage Bistro and The Point Grill) Ethical Bean’s coffees are all fair trade certified organic, bird friendly, and shade grown. From the field to your cup, Ethical Bean is committed to providing farmers a fair price for their coffee while ensuring little environmental impact.

Ethical Bean has created two unique blends for UBC Food Services:

  • Trifecta - a bold blend of coffee completely unabashed by its powerful flavours
  • Perfecta - a medium, sweet and clean blend of coffee

The team at Ethical Bean is proud of their involvement in the Vancouver community as well as the greater global community. Some of their partnerships and sponsorships include: Adoptive Families Association of B.C., The Vancouver Film Festival, and Vancouver’s Folk, Fringe and Children’s Festivals. Ethical Bean has also developed a scholarship fund for Guatemalan children and over the last 4 years, over 245 children have received an elementary school education thanks to Ethical Bean’s efforts.

Milano Coffee

milanoWe are proud to serve Milano’s finest, fair trade, organic espresso and blended drip coffee which is available exclusively at Caffè Perugia, Ike’s Café, LTK Cafe, Sage Bistro and The Point Grill. We are delighted to be in partnership with Milano Coffee, a local Vancouver company and 100 % family owned and operated.

Milano Coffee owner and Master Roaster, native Vancouverite, Brian Turko, has earned his place as a West Coast coffee pioneer. Combining a careful diligence for Italian tradition with a boundless appetite for innovation, Brian’s novel blending concepts have created the ‘Milano Taste’ hailed by coffee connoisseurs throughout the world.

Milano has created 3 blends especially for UBC Food Services:

  • Adagio - a sultry smooth medium roast
  • Arrosto Francese - a rich and smooth French style roast with hints of caramel
  • Espresso la Futura - an Arabica espresso blend with flavours of cocoa, vanilla and toffee

Milano Coffee, along with sister company, Turks Coffee, has been immersed with the community since inception lending support to a varied array of causes including Coastal Health, Out of the Cold Project(helping Vancouver’s homeless), World Vision, MADD, Vancouver International Jazz Fest - just to name a few! Led by the S in SPICE, UBC Food Services continues to make business decisions influenced by our values statement so it is no coincidence that we find ourselves pairing with Milano Coffee who has been working with sustainable coffee concepts for over two decades.
